Which format should I pick?

  • WebP — the modern default. ~30% smaller than JPG at identical visual quality, supports transparency, works in every browser shipped since 2020.
  • JPG — universal compatibility. Use for email attachments, third-party uploads where you don't know the platform, or older software. No transparency.
  • PNG — lossless. Best for screenshots, UI graphics, logos, anything with text or sharp edges. Also the only choice when you need full alpha transparency.
  • AVIF — the smallest of the four, often 50% smaller than JPG. Encoding is slower but worth it for hero images on a high-traffic page.

Common conversions

  • PNG → JPG — shrink screenshots dramatically when you don't need transparency.
  • PNG → WebP — keep transparency, shave ~50% off the file size.
  • JPG → WebP — modern web-optimised replacement, identical to the eye, ~30% smaller.
  • WebP → JPG — for legacy software that still doesn't speak WebP (Photoshop pre-2022, some CMS uploaders).
  • Anything → AVIF — smallest possible files for hero images, blog covers, OG images.

FAQ

Which format should I convert to?

WebP is the best modern default. JPG for universal compatibility. PNG for lossless / transparency. AVIF for the smallest possible file at a small encoding-time cost.

Will converting reduce my image quality?

Converting between lossy formats re-encodes the image and can lose subtle detail. Use the quality slider to control the trade-off. Converting to PNG preserves what's there, but can't recover detail already lost.

Can I batch-convert many files at once?

Yes — drag multiple files onto the drop zone and they all convert in parallel. Use the Download all button to save them in sequence.

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. Conversion runs entirely in your browser using HTML5 Canvas. Your image never leaves your device.
